The Bikini

I never actually planned for any of my children to dress immodestly and always shopped or sewed accordingly. However, when Shaunika was about 3 years old I was shopping at Pic n Save and there was this cute little yellow seersucker two piece bathing suit, I think it was less than $4.00. It was so cute, that I rationalized that she was so young it wouldn't matter.
I bought it and brought it home. I sent her in the bedroom to try it on.
When she came out, she looked down at her visible tummy, drew a line across her chest area as she said "there is a swimming suit up here", then drawing a line across her pantie area as she said "and there is a swimming suit down here, but", as she pointed to her tummy, "there is no swimming suit here".
I took the swim suit back, if a child of three knows she should be modest then I am not going to corrupt her.

  1. And I still have never owned or worn a bikini!

I've been teaching Sam about modesty lately whenever we're in the clothing section of a store. I think that is a better way to teach her than pointing out actual people. So far, she's doing a pretty good job with it. But when we went to the gym yesterday to go swimming, she suddenly was not okay with undressing infront of other people. I think it's a combination of age and our modesty talks. And at the store today I mentioned getting a swimsuit for Alison, but the one's right in front of us were all two-piece, so she said they weren't "mosstest" (modest).

  2. You are the only one who reads my little stories, thank you. Maybe when I can post pictures with them the other kids will want to read them.

  3. That's not true. I read all of your little stories, too. I'm just not so good about commenting on them.

  4. I also read them, but so far most have been before my recollections o I dont really have anything to post about. I do read though and I enjoy hearing about the poverty, hunger and dirt days. Its kind of like pillow talk on my computer!

  5. Thanks to those who are reading them. Merika someday soon you will be reading about your adventures with black olives. I hope to be able to get my old pictures digital so I can add them with the stories.
